OCIA

The Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA)

OCIA is a process within the Catholic Church for adults who are seeking to become members through the Sacraments of Initiation: Baptism, Confirmation, and the Eucharist (Holy Communion) ministered at the Easter Vigil. It's a journey of faith formation, education, and preparation for those who are new to the Church or those who may have been baptized in another Christian tradition but are seeking to fully join the Catholic Church, or for baptized Catholics who are seeking to deepen their faith.

Pope Francis wrote in the Evangelii Gaudium: “I prefer a Church which is bruised, hurting and dirty because it has been out on the streets, rather than a Church which is unhealthy from being confined and from clinging to its own security…If something should rightly disturb us and trouble our consciences, it is the fact that so many of our brothers and sisters are living without the strength, light and consolation born of friendship with Jesus Christ, without a community of faith to support them, without meaning and a goal in life.”

Is your sense of belonging strong or could it use some strengthening? In OCIA, we are working not only to teach about the Catholic faith, but to instill a sense of community to our new brothers and sisters, to be the body of Christ in motion. One way for you to grow your personal community could be participating in the OCIA team.
