I was informed last week in a phone call from Bishop Foys that my retirement will begin on June 11. At that time, Fr. Damian Hils will assume the pastorate here at Blessed Sacrament.
Fr. Hils is no stranger to Blessed Sacrament. He grew up here. His mother and a sister and a brother are all members of the parish. Another sister was on the Finance Council when I first came to Blessed Sacrament. However, she has since moved away.
Fr. Hils has served as pastor at Divine Mercy Parish in Bellevue and is currently pastor at St. William’s in Williamstown KY. This spring Fr. Hils is celebrating his 25th anniversary of ordination. (Oddly, I too celebrated my 25th anniversary during my first year here at Blessed Sacrament.)
But wait, there’s more . I’m not the only one moving out of the rectory. Fr. Clift has been named to be the new pastor in Williamstown, replacing Fr. Hils. His assignment is also effective June 11th.
The new parochial vicar here at Blessed Sacrament will be Fr. Augustine Aidoo. Fr. Augustine was ordained a priest in 2004 for the Diocese of Kumasi, Ghana in Africa. He has served here in Covington for several years now. He currently is the parochial administrator at St. Matthew Church in Morning View KY.
Hopefully by the time June 11 rolls around, all will be able to give these two priests a warm and personal welcome rather than a socially distanced one.
